ABERLOUR A'BUNADH

This Highland distillery lies on the junction of the Lour and Spey rivers overlooked by the rugged peaks of Ben Rinnes. Whisky has been distilled at Aberlour since 1879 and historians say that in 580AD St Drostan used water from the stream to baptize locals. The same stream feeds the distillery that makes this single malt. The stream, in turn, is fed by a spring so pure its water requires no purification treatment.
Aberlour is one of the most interesting single malts on the market. The distilled product is double-casked in a complex process designed to give a unique flavor; some of the whisky is aged in bourbon barrels and the rest in sherry butts. When it comes of age the two are combined for the first time, bringing the flavors and textures together in a palate-pleasing crescendo. The bourbon casks provide a sweet vanilla aroma and golden color while the sherry adds body, sweetness, spiciness and a rich amber hue to the mix. As a result of this process, each batch offers something new.
