POTCHEEN

This is a traditional Irish moonshine that is usually made with wheat or barley and sometimes potatoes. The name in Gaelic is "poitín", meaning "small pot", a reference to the still that was typically used to make it. Unaged and with little dilution, poitin has a reputation in Ireland as a powerful and highly intoxicating spirit. This expression, from the distillers at Bunratty, is 90 proof and despite the lack of ageing, has lots of flavor with a raspberry nose and fruity palate followed by a dry finish. This is the first time poitín has been legally distilled and distributed in Ireland since it was banned in 1667.
