LEOPOLD BROS NAVY STRENGTH GIN

We've waited a long time for Navy Strength gin in the United States. Some of you may be familiar with Plymouth Navy Strength, which is not available here and as of yet there are no plans for it. For those wondering, Navy Strength refers to 57% ABV (100 English Proof) - the alcohol content at which the spirit will ignite if combined with gunpowder. Sailors carried out this test to ensure their gin hadn't been watered down. Leopold Bros have come to the rescue and released this astounding alternative to Plymouth's Navy Strength, and boy are we thrilled.

With twice as much juniper influence than the standard Leopold Bros gin, pumped up citrus and added Bergamot, you're getting a whole new flavor profile. However, the standard Leopold process of distilling each botanical individually still holds true and really shines in the Navy Strength. The finish is round and slightly sweet, not typical of London Dry styles.

For cocktail ideas, this one's geared toward tall drinks utilizing juices, tonics and other dilution aides. We recommend a classic Tom Collins.

Tom Collins:

Shake in iced cocktail shaker & strain

1 oz fresh lemon juice
1/2 oz gum syrup
1 1/2 oz gin

After straining into glass, fill with ice and soda.
Gently stir.
