DETAILS

While today Hayden's is bottled by the ubiquitous James Beam company,
the original recipe for this bourbon dates back to 1796.
Master distiller Basil Hayden had learned his trade in Maryland making whiskey from rye.
In 1785 he moved to Nelson County, Kentucky where he crafted a whiskey that had corn as its base but a higher percentage of rye than other
bourbon distilleries were using.
This recipe has resulted in a smooth, mild bourbon that is distinct from anything else in its class.
It is aged eight years and has a relatively mild 80 proof. The extra rye gives it a peppery aroma and it is ideal if you like bourbon on the rocks.
