Michter's is making some of the finest American whiskey on the market and this sour mash offering is a joy. In the 1970's sour mash was the most popular whiskey from the Micther's distillery but production stopped in the late '80s. It was revived last year to widespread approval. The sour mash is created by using previously fermented corn as the starter for the new batch. Once distilled it was aged in fire-charred oak barrels. The result is a cacophony of flavor with floral, herbaceous notes combining with sweet, dried fruit, toffee, roasted coffee and spice.
