GLENFARCLAS 12 YEAR
This bottle is much fruitier and lighter than many of the best known Scotch brands. Ageing in sherry casks has given it a strong fruit flavor with hints of oak. As always, there is peat, but it's a mild sensation - a whisper rather than a roar. In 2006 this was named the â??Best Sherried Whiskyâ?? in the Single Malt World Cup. More recently Glenfarclas 12 Years Old won Gold at the Stockholm Beer & Whisky Festival in 2007 and again in 2008. Glenfarclas means Glen of the Green Grassland, and it has been said that whisky from this distillery is reminiscent of grassland in spring. This bottling is 43per cent alcohol by volume and at 12 years old it is nicely matured with a full body and plenty of flavor. Glenfarclas is situated in the heart of Speyside, about a one hour drive from Inverness. Since 1865 it has been owned and managed by just one family, the Grants of Glenfarclas. It is one of the few distilleries that has not been taken over by major, multi-national corporations and is proud of its independence.
