ARDBEG SCOTCH UIGEADAIL
In 2009 Jim Murray's Whisky Bible named this the World Whisky of the Year. The award came with lavish praise of its "utter silky brilliance" and "complexity on a level only a handful of distilleries in the world can even dream of reaching". Ardbeg distillery was shut down during the whisky downturn of the 1980s but was thankfully reopened in 1997. It is located on the Isle of Islay, which is famed for its extra-peaty whisky. This bottle, pronounced Oog-a-dal, is a special marriage of the typical Ardbeg smokiness with the luscious tones provided by ageing in sherry casks. It takes its name from the loch which provides the peat-laden water that goes into Ardbeg. It's non chill-filtered at high strength, which retains maximum flavor and gives more body and added depth.
